So the Christmas lights in Mount street have been switched on; in some style as you can read later in this newsletter, and the store is filled with amazing cigars and Christmas cheer.

November was a busy month, it is important to ensure we have all the right cigars in stock so that you can enjoy something special over the festive season and we are delighted with some of the marvellous Christmas gift packs this year, not least the fantastic recreation of the Cohiba Behike launch pack which features one of each of the Behikes in a beautiful polished wooden box. One of these in your stocking on Christmas morning and you have Christmas day, Boxing day and New Year covered.

We have also just received the first stocks of the new H Upmann Half Corona and we are in a state of high excitement because the initial limited stock of the 2011 Montecristo No2 Gran Reserva is on its way from Havana as I type.

We were delighted to welcome a famous cigar smoker to Sautter over the last couple of weeks and our cameraman has been busy so there will be some great new cigar reviews early in the New Year to look forward to.

While everyone was busy drinking champagne and enjoying a good cigar Sautter was also all the way down in Canary Wharf with our new friends Chartwell and we feature in their latest magazine.

Finally, if you are being dragged about the West End Christmas shopping don’t forget that there is always a comfortable seat at Sautter to rest your weary legs and to relax with a cigar and a coffee. We are open until 7.00pm on weekdays so if you find yourself at a loose end waiting for your evening Christmas festivities to kick off pop in and take the weight off.

So best wishes for the festive season from all at Sautter.

Christmas Gifts for the Cigar Lover

At Sautter we have a range of wonderful Christmas gifts for the Cigar lover. So if you haven’t written your note for Father Christmas yet you might want to add one or two of these.

The Habanos Christmas cracker set containing 5 Christmas crackers, each containing a tubed Montecristo Petit Edmundo, a Cutter and matches. So perfect after lunch entertainment for the cigar smokers in your family.

For those of you who remember the original launch of the Behike at the Habanos festival in 2010 you may have seen the gift pack which was given out at the Gala Dinner.

It features one of each of the stunning Cohiba Behike (52, 54 and 56) in a beautiful polished wooden box. It’s what every cigar smoker will want under the tree on Christmas morning.

Another beautifully presented polished box for all of you who like a little age on your cigars. This box contains three beautiful Edicion Limitada cigars from 2007. The cigars are Hoyo de Monterrey 'Regalo', Romeo y Julieta 'Escudo' and a Trinidad 'Ingenio'.

The final gift set featured here is ideal for the travelling cigar smoker in your life. It contains 3 Romeo y Julieta wide Churchill Cigars, one of which is presented in a Romeo y Julieta humidifying tube with a built in cigar punch.

We have many other gift items including some stunning new Sautter cigar cases in a range of colours. Pop in to the store or order on line via our web site http://www.sauttercigars.com/accessories.html

Finally, further on in the Newsletter you will see that we have announced the dates for the 2012 cigar training. These sessions would also make a great Christmas present for new cigar smokers or experienced smokers wanting to learn more about their favourite vitolas and how they are made. Contact the store for more details or to buy a Training Voucher.

Switching on the Mount Street Christmas Lights

If you missed it be sure to put the date in your diary for next year because there is no doubt that the switching on of the Mount Street Christmas lights is one of the most convivial evenings of the year and as you can see young Johnny enjoyed himself mightily.

The Champagne flowed at Sautters and the cigar smoke billowed out into Mount Street as Nancy Dell Olio switched on the Christmas lights.

After doing her duty on the podium Ms Dell Olio visited many of the stores in the street and Johnny was delighted that she managed to squeeze herself into Sautter and grasp a Robusto very tightly for the photographers.

Fleet Street’s finest appeared to like the images because the next day her visit to Sautter featured in the Evening Standard and the Sun.

We particularly liked the picture of Nancy at Allens the butcher and if you follow us on Twitter you will know that there is a caption competition. We have extended the deadline for entries to the 10th of December so if you have good one post it in our Facebook feed @sauttercigars.

Coming soon the new 2011 Montecristo No 2 Gran Reserva

If you have a really good memory you will recall a piece from our March Newsletter when we reported on the 2011 Habanos festival in Havana  and in particular the new Montecristo No2 Gran Reserva.

This is the first Gran Reserva from Montecristo and the cigars will be available in numbered boxes each containing 15 cigars. The Montecristo No 2 Gran Reserva contains tobacco aged for a minimum of 5yrs and the cigars were created by the master rollers at the H. Upmann cigar factory, with leaves from the 2005 harvest picked up from the finest Vuelta Abajo plantations, featuring exquisite farming selection, and a prolonged and thorough natural aging process under the best conditions.

The technical details of the cigars are:

Brand: Montecristo
Commercial name: Montecristo No. 2 Gran Reserva Cosecha 2005
Factory name: Pirámides
Measure: 52 ring gauge (20.64 mm) x 156 mm in length
Presentation: 5.000 Exclusive Cases individually numbered with 15 units each.

We are not sure exactly when the cigars will arrive but as only 5,000 boxes are going to be made you had better call us now if you want one or two.

Sautter features in the latest Chartwell Magazine

Sautter is delighted to have been working with London and Monaco based property company Chartwell in recent weeks. There is a profile of Sautter in the latest Chartwell magazine detailing the history of Sautter in its first 50 years and some of our amazing recent discoveries of historic cigars. Copies of the magazine are now available in the store.

But if you can’t get into the store you can see the magazine on line.

We were also lucky enough to join the team from Chartwell at a wonderful evening on the 38th floor of the Pan Peninsular in Canary Wharf. The show apartment had views over the O2, Greenwich Naval College and west to the Shard and the west end.

The new H.Upmann Half Corona

To coincide with the arrival of the winter weather comes a new small cigar from H Upmann that will give you 20 minutes of pure pleasure on a Winters day when you might prefer to be snuggled up inside.

The H. Upmann Half Corona is the last of the three standard size cigars to be released from Habanos S.A. in 2011, joining the Partagás Serie D No.5 and the E No.2.

The facts and figures:
Commercial Name: Half Corona
Factory Name: Half Corona
Dimensions: 3 1" (90mm) x 44 ring gauge
Flavour Category: Light to Medium
Presentations: Labelled boxes of 25 cigars (tins of 5 cigars to follow)

This compact cigar gets its inspiration from the original Half-a-Corona developed in the early years of the last century by UK cigar importers Melbourne Hart & Company. In fact the original model with a thinner 42 gauge became such a hit that soon every leading Cuban cigar house produced a version and it became the most popular Havana size in Britain.

What the blurb doesn’t tell you is that this is a beautiful little cigar with a slightly stronger blend than traditional light H Upmann cigars and we confidently believe that it will age and mellow beautifully.

First 2012 Cigar training dates announced

We have just announced the dates for our cigar training for the first quarter of 2012. This years training has been a great success and we look forward to welcoming cigar enthusiasts new and old to our sessions in 2012.

The dates will be

  • 14th January
  • 17th March
  • 14th April

Further dates will be announced in the New Year.

If you want to know what the young lady in the picture is up too... she is an ‘Escogedores’, one of the most skilful of all the jobs in the factory. She is responsible for sorting the freshly rolled cigars by the colour of the wrapper. She sorts into 60 different shades all by eye alone. Ensuring that all of the cigars in a box match is one of the key tests that you have a genuine box of Havana cigars.

In addition to our regular monthly cigar training Sautter can also organise special cigar training evenings or days for private of corporate groups.
