Sautter Cigar Library – Handrolled Series

I RECKON the Newman family are quite possibly the nicest in the cigar industry. And trust me, there are some very nice people working in cigars. There’ll be a chapter on their incredible story in my next book; Around The World in 80 Cigars – There And Back Again, and I was lucky to spend time in remarkable Ybor City, Florida, where they are based, exploring with them the history of cigars that is the only reason the town exists in the first place.

THE annual cigar shindig in the industrial town of Dortmund is finished. The booths are dismantled, the ashtrays are emptied. Vape companies pack away their gaudy, Disney-coloured show posters; attractive young models put away their lycra hotpants for another year. 

The State of Play

THE cigar world is a very different place these days. Just a few short years ago, we would never have imagined that things would change so completely. It’s tempting to look back to those times with a wistful sigh.

Love In The Time Of The Corona

I wonder what the cigar world will look like post-Corona? Hopefully those terraces and lounges large enough will be allowed to re-open, given that the need to socially distance looks likely to be with us for months to come.

Look How Far We’ve Come

So much has changed in such a short space of time. It’s discombobulating, for sure, but it’s also strangely exciting; to see, for example, how nature has poured seamlessly back in to fill the void that we have left in public spaces.

Keep On Truckin’

So how are you faring, Sautter family? We are neck-deep in lockdown and with little sign yet of any glimmer of light at the end of a very dark, very dangerous tunnel.

Lockdown

So here we are. Lockdown. In scenes which would have seemed apocalyptic and simply unbelievable just a month ago, seemingly the entire world is banged up indoors as we try to wait out Corona.
