THE first face-to-face gathering of supporters of Nick Hammond’s Around the World in 80 Cigars – There And Back Again book project took place last week at Sautter of Knightsbridge.
Just a dozen or so specially invited guests were treated to hospitality Sautter style, with cocktails made from Leggets Oriental Cigar Gin and cigars supplied generously by Laurence Davis for all to enjoy.
“I won’t give away the surprise, because we have at least two more of these events for guests to enjoy,” said Nick, “but suffice to say, there was an interesting cigar put up for all to savour.”
His Indiegogo campaign to raise £25,000 towards the production of the new cigar travelogue – and raise funds for underprivileged children in Nicaragua – was successfully run earlier in the year.
“We had a really fun, informal evening. I spent some time talking about the new book and adventures old and new, explaining about the scholarships we have been able to provide and we spent a lot of time talking about the current state of the cigar market and what Laurence and I feel the future holds. By the end of the night, we were all simply old friends having a great night together. That’s what cigars do for you.”
Travellers came from as far away as Devon and Middlesborough, especially for the event, and further Backer-only events are planned for October 30 and November 6.
